On November 22nd, the National English Competition for College Students (Final of Chongqing Regional Contest) was held on Chongqing University’s A campus. Fourteen students of our school, including the special prize winner TONG Dona, and the two first prize winner DAI Ziwei and HU Jiarui in the preliminary contest on campus, attended this competition. They all performed well in the final competition, including TONG Dona, who won the special prize with an excellent score of 116.5.
A total of 35 special prizes and 163 first prizes were awarded in the final of Chongqing Regional Contest. In addition to TONG Dona winning the special prize, 13 other students of our school won the first prize, including DAI Ziwei and HU Jiarui. Tong will represent the contestants of Chongqing to take part in the National Final and the summer camp of the 2021 National English Contest for College Students next year, with an opportunity to learn and communicate with the English talents of all colleges in China.
This award is the best result achieved by our school in the English Competition for College Students over the years, and that is a historic breakthrough in our effort to get into the national final. Our school is the only independent school that won the special prize in the final of Chongqing Regional Contest, and that reflects our students’ improvement in their English language skills. This is not possible without the effort of the faculty of the International Business School of our school. They attached great importance to this competition, encouraging all students to register and actively organizing the preliminary contest on campus. Also, they provided targeted guidance to the finalists in an effort to help students to achieve excellent results.
National English Competition for College Students (NECCS) was founded in 1999, and that got the approval of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education. This competition is jointly held by the College Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and the College Foreign Language Teaching Research Association of the Ministry of Education. Up until now, it has held 22 contests, and it has four different bands (A, B, C, D). Band C is for college students of non-English majors, and band D is for college students majoring in sports or art and vocational college students of non-English majors.
