Recently, the 7th OCALE National Cross-border E-commerce Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (Spring Session), hosted by China International Trade Association and National Foreign Trade Vocational Education and Teaching Steering Committee, has come to a close. A total of 1,062 teams from 300 colleges and universities took part in the competition, with a total number of 3,186 participating students, and these teams were divided into undergraduate groups and vocational groups. Two teams chosen from the class of International Economics and Trade of our school, led by DengYaxian and Zhang Can, full-time teachers of the International Economics and Trade Teaching and Research Office of the International Business School of our school, won the second prize of the undergraduate group in the first and second phase respectively, after three days of cooperative endeavours and fierce competition.

In this Competition, participants were required to imitate the CEO of a cross-border shop in the changeable business environment, who were expected to perform a sequence of tasks including selecting products, using funds, choosing logistics mode, deciding on the payment day of the platform, shipping and paying tax, setting price, and making rapid economic and reasonable decision. The only assessment index was the ROI (return on investment) they got. The sand table adopted a turn-based system, with a total of 12 rounds and a liquidation at the end of each round.

The competition tested the participating teams’ awareness of cross-border e-commerce, including its demand awareness, cost awareness, risk awareness, profit awareness, competition awareness, in addition to their abilities of operational decision-making, data analysis, innovative thinking, problem analysis and problem solving, as well as a correct cross-border e-commerce thinking mode. During the competition, the two instructors led the student teams to fight tenaciously, which improved the comprehensive ability of the contestants and showed the positive, tenacious, open and cooperative spirit of the teachers and students of our school.

The International Economics and Trade Teaching and Research Office of the International Business School of our school always pays attention to the cultivation of students’ professional skills, integrating “courses, certificates, competitions and training” into the professional talent cultivation system, and has actively organized students to participate in various professional discipline competitions, so as to improve students’ practical operation ability, teamwork spirit and innovative thinking ability.
